Select your partner and children as the family members for whom you want family reunification. If the estimated citizen\u2019s allowance is \u20ac0, your income is probably sufficient. Possible incomes include work, pension, self-employment, unemployment benefits (only Arbeitslosengeld 1\/ALG 1), child benefits, child allowance, parental allowance, BAf\u00f6G, and vocational training allowance (BAB) and advance maintenance payment (Unterhaltsvorschuss).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"de\">Your <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>apartment<\/strong><\/span> must have a certain size.<\/span><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"12\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-12\">12<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-12\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"12\"><span lang=\"de\">You usually need to have between 6 and 12 square meters of living space per family member. This does not apply to family members of German citizens and skilled workers.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"de\">Your spouse must have an <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>A1 German certificate<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"13\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-13\">13<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-13\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"13\">This does not apply to spouses of skilled workers or people with an EU Blue Card. There are <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/family-reunification-for-immigrants#faq_769\">more exceptions<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"de\">You need health insurance for your family. You and your family members must have passports and clear identities.<\/span><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"14\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-14\">14<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-14\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"14\">Additionally, there must be no entry or residence ban for your family members.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you have a <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>positive asylum decision<\/strong><\/span>, different requirements may apply:\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Recognized refugees or asylum status<\/strong><\/span> (if the application is submitted within 3 months of your recognition): You are entitled to facilitated family reunification and do not need income or housing.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"15\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-15\">15<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-15\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"15\">Privileged family reunification, see <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/family-reunification#faq_324\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Subsidiary protection<\/strong><\/span>: <span lang=\"de\">You can apply for family reunification without income or housing. But your application may be rejected even if you meet the requirements.<\/span><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"16\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-16\">16<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-000000000000216c0000000000000000_2510-16\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"16\">Only a certain number of applications for family reunification with people with subsidiary protection are processed each month. It is possible that your application will be rejected if many applications are submitted. There must also be a humanitarian reason (e.g., family unity is only possible in Germany, family has been separated for a long time, minor children, or illness). Consult a lawyer about this.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en\">Book an appointment at the <\/span><span lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.auswaertiges-amt.de\/en\/about-us\/auslandsvertretungen\/deutsche-auslandsvertretungen\">German embassy<\/a><\/span> in the country where your family lives, for a family reunification visa.
