Your employer also has to inform the immigration office if your residence permit was for a specific job. The immigration office can shorten your residence permit or tolerated stay permit (Duldung) if you lose your job. You can search for a new job until then. Often, the immigration office does not reply to your message. Unemployment benefits are an insurance you are entitled to if you have paid contributions for that long.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"9\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000021660000000000000000_2452\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-9\">9<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-9\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"9\">You need 12 months of work with paid contributions within the last 30 months. Check your payslips if necessary to see if your company has paid contributions to unemployment insurance (AV-Beitrag).<\/span> <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unemployment benefits (Arbeitslosengeld 1) amount to 60 to 67% of your last income and are paid for 6 to 12 months.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"10\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000021660000000000000000_2452\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-10\">10<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-10\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"10\">If you have resigned from your job, you often receive unemployment benefits after a 3-month waiting period. If you have been dismissed, you receive them immediately. You can calculate the approximate amount using this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brutto-netto-rechner.info\/arbeitslosengeld-I-rechner.php\">website<\/a>. People over the age of 50 can receive unemployment benefits for up to 24 months.<\/span> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how to get them:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Immediately after your termination, register online as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arbeitsagentur.de\/arbeitslos-melden\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">seeking employment<\/span><\/a>. <sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"11\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000021660000000000000000_2452\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-11\">11<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-11\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"11\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arbeitsagentur.de\/arbeitslos-melden\/pd?reglevel=pin\">Register<\/a> with the federal employment agency (Bundesagentur f\u00fcr Arbeit) using your email address. Then you can submit the notification that you are seeking employment online.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Register as unemployed in person no later than 3 days after your job ends.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"12\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000021660000000000000000_2452\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-12\">12<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-12\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"12\">Go to your local federal employment agency (Bundesagentur f\u00fcr Arbeit). Once you have verified yourself in person, you can also complete the registration online. Contact a <a href=\"https:\/\/life-initiative.org\/en\/beratungsstelle\/\">counseling center<\/a> if you need help.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then, submit your application <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arbeitsagentur.de\/arbeitslos-melden\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">online<\/span><\/a> or in person.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You do <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><b>not need<\/b><\/span> to inform the immigration office about unemployment benefits (Arbeitslosengeld I). This applies, among other things, to residence permits for work or study (\u00a7\u00a7 16, 16a-f, 17, 17a-b, 18, 18a-d, 18g, 19a-d, 20, 21)<\/span> If you apply for citizen\u2019s allowance, you could lose your residence permit.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"18\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000021660000000000000000_2452\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-18\">18<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000021660000000000000000_2452-18\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"18\">If you cannot apply for citizen\u2019s allowance, check if you may be eligible for housing benefits (Wohngeld).
