Only state-recognized diplomas improve your chances. Vocational training is possible in <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/vocational-training-school\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">school<\/a> and in a <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/vocational-training-dual\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">company<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask for <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/vocational-training-orientation-for-refugees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">help in finding vocational training<\/a>. If you are looking for a shorter training with slightly lower requirements, consider options like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.arbeitsagentur.de\/berufenet\/beruf\/steckbrief\/30191\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nursing assistant<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (link in German).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold; font-size: 22px;\">4. Help your children with school<\/span><\/summary>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-2687\" src=\"https:\/\/life-initiative.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/education-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/life-initiative.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/education-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/life-initiative.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/education-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/life-initiative.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/education.png 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a chance for the entire family to get a residence permit if you or one of your children successfully <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><b>attends school for three years<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"8\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000021850000000000000000_2446\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000021850000000000000000_2446-8\">8<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000021850000000000000000_2446-8\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"8\">For the <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/bleiberecht#faq_653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a725a residence permit<\/a> for children aged 14 and older, three school years are required. The years only count if the child progresses to the next grade level (does not repeat a grade). The grades do not matter. If a child under 18 in the family gets the \u00a725a residence permit, the parents and siblings may also be eligible for a residence permit.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure your child always attends school. Maybe start a Minijob during your integration course.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"11\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000021850000000000000000_2446\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000021850000000000000000_2446-11\">11<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000021850000000000000000_2446-11\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"11\">It might be better to focus on learning German first. Working full-time too early, without good German skills, could negatively impact your long-term chances.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look for a full-time job. You need <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><b>sufficient income<\/b><\/span> for yourself and your family for many residence permits.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"12\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000021850000000000000000_2446\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000021850000000000000000_2446-12\">12<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000021850000000000000000_2446-12\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"12\">For a <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/beschaeftigungsduldung\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Besch\u00e4ftigungsduldung<\/a> (tolerated stay permit for work), you need a job of at least 20 hours per week for the past 12 months. Without a family, for many residence permits a net income of about \u20ac1,500 is required. In some cases (for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/bleiberecht#faq_652\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a725b<\/a>), a lower income may be sufficient.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><b>Contributions to the pension insurance<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> improve your chances for a <a href=\"https:\/\/life-initiative.org\/en\/niederlassungserlaubnis\/\">Niederlassungserlaubnis<\/a> (permanent residence permit). Always pay contributions to the pension insurance even with a Minijob.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"13\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000021850000000000000000_2446\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000021850000000000000000_2446-13\">13<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000021850000000000000000_2446-13\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"13\">With a Minijob, you can apply for an exemption from pension insurance contributions using a form. Do <strong>not<\/strong> sign this form. B2 is needed for many vocational training programs. C1 is needed for university studies.<\/div><\/li><li><span>7<\/span><div>While you are in vocational training, you can get a <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/ausbildungsduldung\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Duldung (tolerated stay permit)<\/a> or a <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/vocational-training-residence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">residence permit<\/a>. With a diploma, you can get the <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/bleiberecht#faq_654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a719d residence permit<\/a>. Only state-recognized diplomas improve your chances. Vocational training is possible in <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/vocational-training-school\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">school<\/a> and in a <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/vocational-training-dual\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">company<\/a>.<\/div><\/li><li><span>8<\/span><div>For the <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/bleiberecht#faq_653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a725a residence permit<\/a> for children aged 14 and older, three school years are required. The years only count if the child progresses to the next grade level (does not repeat a grade). The grades do not matter. If a child under 18 in the family gets the \u00a725a residence permit, the parents and siblings may also be eligible for a residence permit.<\/div><\/li><li><span>9<\/span><div>Information on <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/support-programmes-job-search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">job search support programs<\/a>.<\/div><\/li><li><span>10<\/span><div>A <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/minijob\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minijob<\/a> is a job with an income of around \u20ac500 a month.<\/div><\/li><li><span>11<\/span><div>It might be better to focus on learning German first. Working full-time too early, without good German skills, could negatively impact your long-term chances.<\/div><\/li><li><span>12<\/span><div>For a <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/beschaeftigungsduldung\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Besch\u00e4ftigungsduldung<\/a> (tolerated stay permit for work), you need a job of at least 20 hours per week for the past 12 months. Without a family, for many residence permits a net income of about \u20ac1,500 is required. In some cases (for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/handbookgermany.de\/en\/bleiberecht#faq_652\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a725b<\/a>), a lower income may be sufficient.<\/div><\/li><li><span>13<\/span><div>With a Minijob, you can apply for an exemption from pension insurance contributions using a form. Do <strong>not<\/strong> sign this form.
